During the spontaneous procedure, on Wednesday (24.04.2024), in the afternoon, in Corfu, five citizens, aged between 16 and 54, were arrested by police officers of the Sub-Directorate of Security, involved in house burglaries in Corfu.
Against four of the above arrested, a criminal case was filed for distinguished thefts, while a co-accused for complicity in the same crime is another 54-year-old citizen, the father of two of the perpetrators.
After appropriate use of information, those involved in the case were located and arrested, in the afternoon hours of Wednesday (24.04.2024), outside the Port of Corfu, riding in a truck property of the 54-year-old, while they were trying to escape by boat from the island.
From the thorough investigation of the Security Sub-Directorate of Corfu, it emerged that the four nationals, in the last period of time, had united with the purpose of committing thefts, with loose gold and jewelry.
In particular, the action of the above individuals has been identified in four cases of successive house burglaries, in areas of North Corfu, which took place on Monday (22.04.2024) and Tuesday (23.04.2024) during which they removed gold and jewelery of great monetary value .
During the investigations, silver bars were found and confiscated, as well as a large amount of gold and jewelry, the value of which is estimated to exceed the monetary amount of -26,000- euros, while part of it was recognized by their owners and concerns two more cases of burglaries, in same area of the island, which took place in May 2022 and December 2023.
A preliminary investigation was carried out by the Security Directorate of Corfu, in the context of which -5- mobile phones and two cars were seized as means of facilitating the commission of criminal acts.
The arrested persons were taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Corfu and after criminal prosecution was instituted against them, they were referred to Mr. Anakritis.
