Syros: Meeting of Mayor Al. Athanasiou with MEP Maria Spyrakis

The Mayor of Syros – Ermoupoli, Mr. Alexandros Athanasiou, met today, Friday, April 26, 2024, in his office, with MEP Maria Spyrakis, in the presence of the Deputy Mayors, Mr. Yiannis Maragou, Nikos Skevophylax and Dimitris Kosmas, the Municipal Councilor Mr. Yiannis Voutsinos, the president of DEEP Cyclades Mr. Christos Kaftirani and the president of DIM.TO.O. SW in Syros, Mr. Stathis Barbunis.

The meeting took place in the context of the pre-election period for the upcoming European elections, in which Ms. Spyrakis is running again with the ND ballot.

During the debate, the MEP presented the main axes on which the European Union is moving with regard to financial tools, the green economy and digital transformation, while she referred in detail to the way of operation and organization of the European Parliament, emphasizing the great importance of vote of our fellow citizens in the European elections.

For his part, Mr. Athanasiou pointed out the need for municipalities to utilize all European resources in the most efficient way, given that modern municipalities are now called upon to expand their development activities through the planning and implementation of economic projects and programs development, social and educational policy, environmental protection, etc.

The meeting ended in a very good atmosphere with mutual assurances for further cooperation in the responsibilities of Ms. Spyraki.
