At a distance of only three kilometers from Syntagma Square, the largest hole in Greece has been created. It is so big that when it opened it swallowed three cars!
This hole was created a full 6 years ago in the parking area of the ISAP Tavros station in Kallithea and as incredible as it may sound, it remains open to this day. In fact, the first trees have started to emerge from inside it, as seen in a video by Up Stories. It is noteworthy that for a period of time the Municipality of Kallithea also guarded it with guards…
The story of… a hole
The hole was opened on May 11, 2018, after subsidence in the bed of the Ilisos river, next to the ISAP station, probably due to corrosion or age. Since then, it has remained open, causing traffic problems and endangering the safety of pedestrians.
In June 2023, according to Decision No. 178/2023 of the Regional Council of Attica on 8/6/2023, the inclusion and financing of the project to restore the sedimentation of the Ilisos, budget 1,686, was ensured in the executable projects of the Region of Attica. 400.00 euros.
The Municipality of Kallithea, through a series of actions and mobilizations (filing of a lawsuit against all those responsible, interventions in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Region of Attica, a demonstration at the point of subsidence) requested that the restoration works begin immediately.
