Corfu: Meropi Hydraiu- “We call on the municipal authority to manage Corfu”

The former Mayor of Central Corfu, Meropi Hydraiou, strongly criticizes the municipal Authority for its institutional functioning, on the occasion of the measures for the table seats in the Old Town. The head of the opposition talks about hasty and illegal proposals-decisions.

“The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Old Town introduced a proposal to regulate the seating and merchandise for the days of Easter, holidays and events throughout the year and only for the Old Town, first to the Municipal Committee and then to the Municipal Council, without even a proposal from the competent service, something unheard of for such an issue, (which official would put his signature on something illegal after all) without a legal basis, baptizing “meat fish”, since there is no Regulation in force in our Municipality to rely on and to completed. As a result, the municipal authority’s proposal was completely legally void, baseless and arbitrary.
Furthermore, this proposal came without the consultation that democracy itself mandates on such a serious matter that affects everyone and life in our city, trade associations, residents, focus, opposition factions and other agencies and services that this so-called ‘regulatory setting’ .
And while in the committee that we were called urgently (at 11:00 the proposal came and at 12:30 we were called to vote) we, of course, requested that the issue be postponed due to the lack of consultation and the illegality of the whole process, something that was not accepted and thus aron also entered the Municipal Council, where of course he fell like a paper tower, after the sloppiness, illegality and circumvention of the procedure were revealed.
We therefore call on them to understand that they are now in charge and judged by themselves and must take their role and duty seriously and not oppose the opposition and themselves, because they will be left with the kusuri and the communication fanfare and from substance and work for the citizens, NONE!!»
