A. Georgiadis: “Bodosakeio will become the major reference hospital in Western Macedonia”

The minister’s statements caused reactions

Reactions were caused by the statements of the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis on the show “Mismatches” of the TV station SKAI about the new health map and the problems with the ICUs which in Western Macedonia are almost… non-existent.

Mr. Georgiadis said that the first topic discussed last week when he was at Bodosakeio hospital in Ptolemaida, as part of his tour in Western Macedonia, was about the ICUs in Kozani and Ptolemaida that are not working. “We have made some decisions on how we will put the ICU into operation in the Prefecture of Kozani, there is a problem in the Kozani hospital regarding the operation of the ICU and it will operate in Bodosakeio hospital which will also become the large reference hospital of the area, this has the possibility and there we will give all our strength” emphasized the minister.

He also noted that today we have twice the number of operating beds in ICUs than we had in 2019.We had 500 in ’19, we have 1000 now. It’s the legacy covid left us but we have 100% more functional ICU bedshe underlined himself.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works, Haris Govedaros, stated in his personal post that “there are heartbreaks on the horizon” while Ilias Katanas noted “quite suddenly it seems that a new health map is going to be created in our area, essentially degrading the Kozani Hospital. In a hospital where the works for its expansion and the creation of a new ward are still in progress with the cost even exceeding 15.5 million euros. Unfortunately, until now we have not seen any official reaction. The Mayor of Kozani and the municipal authority must urgently bring the issue to the municipal council. The situation is absolutely critical».

The Minister, in a meeting he had last week with hospital workers, mentioned, among other things, that the proposal for the rearrangement of the health map is expected and that at this stage the strengthening of hospital institutions is a priority. The redesign of the NHS is expected to proceed by the Ministry of Health after the European elections in June.

At the same time, according to EODY data, there is a small increase in covid with six intubated and six dead and a total of 81 new admissions in the last week, while the flu positivity is over 10% (seasonal threshold for the start of epidemic flu activity according to the ECDC) and maintained at high, for the season, levels.
