The accused police officer was given a 3-year suspended sentence
The police officer of the parliamentary car that collided outside the Parliament building with the motorcycle of 23-year-old Jason Lalaounis in March 2021, as a result of which the latter lost his life, was found guilty of the crime of negligent homicide. The defendant was given a 3-year suspended sentence.
The accused driver applied for the mitigation of previous legal life, saying that he has never been in trouble with the authorities and has a clean criminal record.
However, the district attorney recommended the rejection of the plea
noting that the accused did not demonstrate legal behavior, violating the Code of Criminal Procedure. “It was not an inconsistency in the behavior he demonstrated during the traffic accident,” said the prosecutor’s office.
