After the soldout of November 2023, the tango opera in concert form by Astor Piazzolla “Maria of Buenos Aires” returns to PSKI for a single performance, on Saturday April 27, at 21:00, in the “Andreas and Maria Kalokairinou” Hall , with the participation of an orchestral ensemble of young musicians, under the musical direction of Yiannis Protopapas.

Maria was born in a poor neighborhood in the suburbs of Buenos Aires “…on a day when God was drunk”. A song from a sparrow and a child’s lullaby from an out-of-tune bandoneon lead her away from home and innocence. In the heart of Buenos Aires, little Maria gets lost in the challenges of the city. Dark streets and the underworld claim her body, Tango wins her soul. The girl becomes a woman, becomes a shadow, wanders, dies with seven stabs and is reborn with seven rays of the sun. Her soul now free, she chooses the streets of Buenos Aires again. Maria was, is and will be. He roams the streets, lives among us and follows the tango music wherever it sounds.

An allegory about the birth, death and evolution of tango, in the form of a folk operetta with music by Astor Piazzolla and texts by Horacio Ferrer.
