Borderline Festival 2024
In its 13th edition, the Borderline Festival unfolds at Stegi and other parts of Athens in a three-day event dedicated to the future of contemporary music. From the Municipal Market of Kypseli, in the heart of the city, to Gagarin 205 and the Carhartt WIP Stage at -1 of Stegi, 19 Greek and international artists in a line-up that defies genres, where Detroit techno meets reggaeton and deconstructed club.

Jane

Jane by Katerina Mavrogeorgis gets a short extension after the enthusiastic reception of the show by the audience and the critics. Jane, based on Charlotte Bronte’s Victorian novel, Jane Eyre, with humor, tenderness and great curiosity invites us to quench our thirst in a strangely funny and poetic world.

The Millennials

Those viewers who did not have time to see Chrysa Kolokouri’s work have one more chance. Three young people, just before and just after 30, are trying to find their footing in life, love and friendship. A birthday party, a break-up, the rent at the end of the month, a music producer who never comes, failed auditions and job interviews, coming of age and hoping that, it can’t, something will happen, all set against the backdrop of present-day Athens .

The accomplice

Last performances of the play by Giorgos Christodoulou. One of the most famous crimes that shocked Greek society was the inspiration for Synergos. This work does not focus on the abuser or the victim. Apostolis is peacefully living his life with his wife in the village, when one night his beloved cousin confesses to him that he killed his girlfriend and asks him to help him hide the body.

The most beautiful body ever found in this place

Extension for Joseph Maria Miró’s prize-winning work with the footnote “Written for an actor. Gender doesn’t matter. Not even age. Nor the physique.” A teenager, the most handsome boy in all of rural Catalonia, is found dead in the middle of nowhere. On the occasion of this event unfolds the pathogenicity of the closed society of a provincial town in which nothing ever happens. With Argyris Xafis.

Mystery 14 Human Requiem in Eleusis

World premiere of the film by French filmmaker Stephan Talneau for the performance of the same name at the archaeological site of Elefsina, directed by Jochen Sandig and choreographed by Sasha Waltz, in the presence of its creators. A special recording of the performance of the same name choreographed by Sasha Waltz, held as part of 2023 Eleusis in autumn 2023 with the participation of the 65-member Berlin Radio Choir (Rundfunkchor Berlin). A discussion with the contributors will follow. On April 27th it will be screened at Cine Eleusis and the next day at the Athens Concert Hall.

Finchtopia

What would happen if we looked at the Athens of the ’90s, removing the prism of nostalgia? What does it mean to travel back in time, showing the dark and “dirty” parts of the city? Can urban realism preserve the history of Athens? Andreas Finch (Finch of Athens), known for his iconic series of 3D pavilions and miniatures, introduces us to a world that seems to be a miserable mistake in a beautiful city. The artist’s second solo exhibition presents a series of works as a new vignette of urban folklore.

Spartacae – Spartacians

In this particular series of works, Petros Nikoltsos experiments with shades and color tones, dark lines, vertical and horizontal movements of color that recall symbolic and historical boundaries. Nikoltsos ponders the crosses since the end of the rebellion of Spartacus and the gladiators in 73 BC. in ancient Rome and is inspired by them. His main problematic is the issue of slavery versus authority, rebellion versus submission in societies, where the dichotomy of the oppressor and the oppressed is answered.

Sevdaliza

The word ‘unique’ is often thrown around artists, but in Sevdaliza’s case it really is; so much so that she was personally chosen by Madonna to accompany her in her recent performances in Amsterdam. An artist who breaks every boundary, moving comfortably between different genres of music.

JS Bach: The Matthew Passion
A different version of Bach’s classic devotional work. This time the Matthew Passion is presented in a semi-staged version, with the element of movement adding another dimension to the reception of the work, making its insurmountable musical meanings more tangible, more dramatic, perhaps even more relevant. Sivert Hoyem

The Madrugada frontman brings his melancholy to Athens, alone this time, as he did eight years ago. He will sing songs that his friends have loved over the years and some from the album entitled “On an island” that was released this year.

Allan Harris

The “Nat King Cole of the 21st century”, as he has been called, unique crooner, guitarist, actor and jazzman, returns after seven years, at the peak of his great career, with his great band, for five appearances just before the Easter.

2nd Worship Music Festival
For two days the garden of the Presidential Palace, the Areopagite of Dionysus, the Metropolis of Athens, the Anglican and Evangelical Churches, the Catholic Cathedral, the Fethiye Mosque, the Old Stock Exchange, the Acropolis, New Greek Culture and Goulandris museums, the halls of ELS in SNFCC and Parnassos will be filled with worship music. A marathon with more than 50 concerts and activities under the artistic direction of Giorgos Koumendakis that aims to approach numerous and unexpected aspects of the relationship between religious worship and music.

Ziria Festival

Ziria Festival is celebrating its 15th anniversary and, now in its teens, it’s turning things up and down with a six-hour program that has it all, new musicians, new bands, a big rapper, a psychedelic explosion and a wild after party.
