There is no sanctity for the shrewd who find every imaginable way to deceive unsuspecting citizens in order to take money from their bank accounts.

This time a 59-year-old woman from Heraklion, who had contacted a company based in Cyprus in order to invest in Bitcoin, fell. The woman was convinced by what she was told and instructed and decided to deposit 5,500 euros from her bank account to the company.

After time passed and the investment was supposed to… “seed” he received a message from the fraudsters that the Bitcoin investment he made reached 11,000 euros.

The woman asked to take the money she won, but instead of crediting her, they asked her to deposit an additional 6,500 euros in order to be able to deposit the amount.

The woman did not proceed to deposit the money and filed a complaint with the Police, who are looking for the perpetrators.

At the same time, the Police advises citizens to be especially careful in cases of fraud.

In detail it advises:

• Be especially wary when strangers try to convince you, either in person or over the phone, to pay a sum of money, under the pretext of an urgent need for a relative or friend (e.g. hospitalization – urgent expensive operation, etc.) or the pretext of causing an accident by a relative of yours, which resulted in the death or serious injury of a minor, usually a child.

• Do not be easily convinced by unknown people who approach you or call you either under the pretext of bargain shopping, or as accountants or employees of public services and businesses or as acquaintances of your relatives, pretending either to refund money – allowances or to pay off debt or financial support on behalf of your relatives.

• Beware of bargain purchases of products recommended to you by strangers, especially if you have not seen these products first.

Suspicious people know very well how important it is to surprise and emotionally charge their potential victims.

For this reason:

Remain calm .
In cases where strangers call an emergency of a known-relative, always try to contact the known-relative by phone yourself, if possible from another telephone device to avoid the possibility that the perpetrators have not ended the call performed to you, in confirmation of what they plead.
The communication should be done immediately, with your own phone and on your own initiative, and do not accept to speak with a person who was called by strangers or given to you by the perpetrators to speak to.
In any case, state that you are not going to hand over money if your acquaintances-relatives do not show up.
Do not under any circumstances allow unknown persons to lead you to a Bank or ATM to withdraw money and do not disclose your personal information regarding your bank cards-accounts-codes.

It is noted that:

• in traffic accidents, the legal and prescribed actions are always followed by the Police Authorities, under the guidance of the local Prosecutor’s Authorities and in no case are they deviated from them, by paying sums of money

• hospitals or public services do not use the practice of their employees going to homes or public places and asking citizens to pay money for services they provide.

It is important to:

always have available the phone numbers you need to contact in case of emergency (Police, Fire, Hospitals, close relatives, etc.).
inform your relatives (close and wider relatives, friends and social environment) and especially elderly people about the content of this and advise them about it, in order to avoid the possibility of their victimization.
