Yannis Vezyrgiannidis started his election campaign from Rodopi

The New Democracy MEP candidate Mr. Ioannis Vezyrgiannidis made a series of contacts on 05/24/2024 as part of the pre-election tour for the European elections of June 9, 2024.

Him His Eminence Metropolitan Maroneia and Komotini was visited by Mr. Ioannis Vezyrgiannidis in the context of her tour of the Prefecture of Rhodope, from whom she was informed about the rich pastoral, spiritual, cultural and philanthropic work of the Diocese which is inextricably linked to the 10-year presence of His Holiness Panteleimon in our region. Mr. Ioannis Vezyrgiannidis heartily thanked the Reverend Pastor for the warm welcome and hospitality, as well as for his valuable thoughts and fruitful dialogue.

Mr. Ioannis Vezyrgiannidis met at the Rector’s Office of the Democritus University of Thrace with the Rector Mr. Fotios Maris. Mr. Ioannis Vezyrgiannidis emphasized that the heart of Europe beat in Komotini with the contribution of ITH, as through the Europe Direct programs AMTH mobilizes citizens for the European elections and highlights the important role of the University in our region. The Democritus University of Thrace is among the largest Universities in the country, with 8 Faculties, 18 Departments and 47,000 students, and its strengthening and evolution into a development vehicle for the Thrace region that will offer not only more students, but also research for the local market, and support for environmental and development issues

Mr. Ioannis Vezyrgiannidis met at the headquarters of the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, with the Regional Governor Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis.The discussion with Mr. Topsides focused on the reconstruction of PAMTH and the implementation of a sustainable and realistic development model for the coming years and emphasis was placed on the need for reconstruction, provided by agro-food and tourism, as well as dealing with the consequences of the climate crisis the consequences of which the residents of PAMTH experienced especially after last year’s devastating fires.
