Once again, the municipal council of Patras was busy with a matter concerning contract holders. Yesterday, the reason was the incident of violence that was reported by contract workers in the early hours of last Thursday outside the occupied City Hall.
The three factions of the opposition demanded that the issue be discussed at yesterday’s meeting, so that a decision to condemn “any form of violence and especially the incidents of violence against contract workers that took place in the area around the City Hall” could be taken.
The opposition also considers that “any invitation, on behalf of the municipal authority of the Municipality of Patreon, for organized mobilization in the same place where workers with whom the municipal authority is an opponent in court cases have already mobilized, is condemnable, as well as and every insulting report by the mayor of Patreon about the leaders of the municipal factions and every attempt to guard the City Hall by groups of citizens”.
The discussion was attended by a large delegation of contract holders with Stefanos Alexandropoulos who has complained that he was physically and verbally attacked in the early hours of April 12, while at the same time people from the wider environment of the municipal authority and deputy mayors were in the area. Mr. Alexandropoulos described the moments as he experienced them and they were presented in detail last week in an exclusive confession to “P” and the journalist Panagiotis Rigopoulos.
At the end of the meeting, two proposals were put to vote. The proposal of the municipal authority Peletidis prevailed due to a majority, which did not refer to the incident in question, but denounced the “violence and terrorism against all workers and contract holders, practiced by the dirty system of exploitation of man by man. Which exploits unemployment to terrify them, to lead them to the era of “he who saves himself shall be saved”.
The decision includes claims for the announcement of all vacant organizational positions through ASEP and the classification of those who worked in the Municipality with programs, to give the funding to which the Municipality is entitled, an extraordinary grant to cover the salaries and insurance of contractors and to repeal the law that prohibits contracts of certain time indefinite.
