N. Lemonidis: “It was a very beautiful year”

--

We had the opportunity to meet with the coach of GAS Komotini Neoklis Lemonidis. Now that everything has calmed down, after the National League1 championship is over for the city team, we wanted to know what he has to say about the club’s progress, what was the turning point this year for the team, whether he will be on the GAS bench in the new season . All of the above and more were discussed.

“It was a very beautiful year, we will only remember the pleasant memories”, said the coach, commenting on the year that ended with the team’s participation in the playoffs for promotion to the A2 National Team. The year was definitely successful, the coach acknowledged, since the initial goal was to stay, but in the end everyone together managed to take the big step of participating in the playoffs. This was, however, what left a bitterness at the end of the year, because “we wanted to continue in the next round of the playoffs”. Unfortunately, the city team had a bad day against an experienced team from Veria, which is why they were eliminated.

Young athletes at the wheel
Among the positives of the year is also the fact that almost all athletes were used. Also, the deep roster of GAS helped not to miss trainings and to do a good job in terms of preparation throughout the year. That’s why Neoklis Lemonidis insisted that everyone has a stake in the success of a club, even the athletes who didn’t see much time on the floor.

It should also be noted that this year’s roster was particularly young in terms of age, with the coach of GAS Komotini characteristically saying that “the children are young, only one has been a soldier…”.
Finally, regarding his own future in GAS and whether he will remain next year at the “helm” of the men’s team, Neoklis Lemonidis informed that “we have not yet spoken with the management, it is still too early”, however he made it clear that there is a will and good mood.
