An urgent matter for discussion regarding the approval of a decision on temporary traffic regulations on a section of the Komotini-Kosmio provincial road for the construction project of the Kosmio bridge and cycle track on the Radio Station-Kosmio route was discussed at the Regional Council meeting on Wednesday, April 24. This is a contract signed by Chrysi Tsilingiri, if. head of the Directorate of Technical Projects of the Rodopi Regional Unit. Due to her absence, the proposal was made by Rodopi’s deputy governor Manolis Tapatzas, who informed that the project is expected to start in May with a total duration of six months.

It is about the bridge at the entrance and exit from Kosmio that passes over the river Trelochimarro, and from December 20, 2022, the contract with ERGOBETON has been signed, however, despite the project’s delays, it must be completed.

Summer and winter problems
Nikos Tsalikidis of the “New Regional Renaissance”, former deputy governor of Rhodope, explained that the project did not proceed in the summer season due to the fact that the traffic would possibly hamper the tourist season in the area east of Rhodope, as well as there were concerns about the passage of vehicles that went to and from the beach so that there is a common route for both routes.

Manolis Tapatzas replied that many meetings were held to find the best solution to deal with the matter. The golden section, as he claimed, has been found and will be the double traffic parallel to Egnatias Odos and the church of Agios Athanasios, right at the Irish crossing and then right again at the Kosmio ring road ending at the 1st junction after the Kosmio bridge and opposite the tavern ” Thrace”. According to Mr. Tapatza, the bypass will have the extra safety that a road should have.

Regarding the possible construction of the bridge in the winter, the deputy governor complained that such a project could not be done at such a time due to the fact that it can bring down several meters of water (as it has already done) so that the construction of the bridge in the summer is forced months.
