How did the MEPs react when the pigeon flew freely in the chamber
MEPs in the European Parliament were left speechless when MEP Miroslav Radachovski, leader of the right-wing “Slovak Patriotic Party” took a pigeon out of the bag slung over his shoulder and set it free to fly “as a symbol of peace” into the chamber. Plenary in Strasbourg.
The MEP explained that his move referred to a call for world peace. “I wish peace to the whole world, Russians and Ukrainians. I wanted to release this dove as a symbol of peace, that Europe needs peace. Let this dove unite us all.”
The reactions of the MEPs after the release of the pigeon
The MEP’s move caused a variety of emotions as well as reactions from his colleagues. French Greens MEP Carolyn Rouge accused Radachowski of carrying a live animal into the European Parliament in defiance of its rules. “He used an animal hidden in his bag as a simple object to make a statement in favor of peace. What will you do to catch this animal, sir?’
On the same wavelength and a Slovak MEP who asked Mr. Radacovski, while the pigeon was flying, “can you catch it now?”
“We hope the pigeon is fine,” said Jean-Christophe Otjen, one of the presidents of the European Parliament, who said he would report the incident to MEP President Roberta Metzola.
