Flogging in the Parliament: MP K. Floros is free

Independent MP Konstantinos Floros was released with a restrictive condition, for the incident of beating Vassilis Grammenos in the Parliament.

The condition imposed on him is to keep a distance of at least fifty meters from B. Grammenos in any case.

“As a son at that moment, driven by emotion, I thought I did the right thing. However, since I hold an important position as a member of parliament, I believe that I made a complete mistake. This behavior is not appropriate for a Greek parliamentarian and it does not set an example,” said the former Spartan MP as he left the courts in Evelpidon.

The advocate of K. Floros stated that “criminal justice knows how to assess the facts and get to the bottom of it. In a human way of approach, the lady investigator and the lady prosecutor pointed out to him that such behavior is not understood by a Greek member of parliament. He has understood from the first moment that such behavior does not befit a member of parliament”.

The accused for a self-inflicted felony involving violence against a member of parliament in the performance of his duties spent the night in GADA, by order of the investigator after the deadline he requested yesterday afternoon for his apology.

According to information, the defendant requests that two members of the N.D. and an independent, also from the Spartans, who, according to Mr. Floros’ position, will confirm his claim that there was no punching attack by him against Mr. Grammenos.

According to information, from the attack, Vassilis Grammenos he suffered broken nasal bones and a sprained jaw.

The incident took place yesterday, while the Plenary Session of the Parliament was discussing the lifting of the immunity of the president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, following a defamation suit filed against him by the father of Konstantinos Floros. Before attacking, the defendant had an intense dialogue with Mr. Grammenos inside the room. When they were both outside the room, Mr. Floros attacked and punched the Hellenic Solution MP.

The public prosecutor has charged the independent member of parliament with a felony charge of violence against a member of parliament.

A criminal prosecution was brought against the MP based on article 157 of the Criminal Code in the criminal form of the first paragraph, which states that “whoever by force or threat of force imposes on the Parliament or the government or on a member thereof the execution, omission or tolerance of an act returning to their duties, shall be punished by imprisonment for at least ten years. The same penalty is imposed if the act is directed against a leader of a political party recognized under the Parliament’s regulations.”
