Strong criticism was unleashed on the Government for the creation of ODYTH SA, which will manage the water and anti-flood projects of Thessaly, in terms of private economy, the Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of PASOK-KINEMATOS ALLAGIS and Member of Parliament for Larissa Evangelia Liakoulis, during her speech to the Plenary of the Parliament. He even called out the Minister of the Environment for treating the House of Parliament with disrespect, when he even talks about “surrealism”, at a time when Thessaly has been completely destroyed and 7 months later remains mired in mud.
The MP of Larissa referred to the disasters of Thessaly from the floods, noting that “You have never come to Thessaly, Minister, to see what has happened, so I will describe to you the landscape that I am there every day. In Thessaly in September 2023 we drowned. You were talking about Noah’s Ark and an unprecedented phenomenon that could not be dealt with. But the truth is, that the phenomenon could of course be dealt with, but the Government was caught sleeping. Because you were not okay, Mr. Minister, with the map of the anti-flood projects that was posted in the European Union and the corresponding committee, which has already led to fines against our country. You did not function properly either in the central state or in your regional structures and bankrupted Thessaly! 17 human lives were lost, houses, infrastructure, properties, crops, everything were destroyed. Thessaly zero hour”.
Then, the Secretary of K.O. of PASOK referred to the Government’s choice to manage the water and anti-flood projects of Thessaly through an Anonymous Company, ODYTH SA, noting characteristically “You are building a private water management company in Thessaly, quite simply because you lost the regional elections in Thessaly and the new regional authority is not your co-op. You want to leave out the Region and you put 13 highly paid people on the Board of ODYTH, excluding the institutional figure of the Region Governor. So you lost the election and started working on the plan of how to manage everything in Thessaly. The strategic plans, the flood plans, the waters, everything that crawls, moves and flies! At the same time, you did nothing for Thessaly. Not even the help you did not give, for which I heard Mr. Mitsotakis apologizing the other day in Mouzaki, that the mechanism should be speeded up. The truth is that you are creating ODYTH, a company with share capital, and therefore with an increase in share capital, the management of strategic flood plans and water can come fully to the private individual, as a provider, controller and controlled together in both fields!”.
Evangelia Liakoulis highlighted the direct connection of these Government plans for Thessaly with the so-called masterplan drawn up by the Dutch company, citing characteristics “You brought one Dutch company to make a masterplan for Thessaly, a company in which “someone” Grigoris Dimitriadis was a high-ranking executive. A company that has only managed projects in Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America and had never dealt with Europe, dealt with Thessaly. By what criteria did you choose it, gentlemen of the Government? What was the mix of expertise, science and good example? The answer is none! The Dutch company presented a masterplan that left Thessaly stunned. I read the interview of the CEO of the Dutch company, Mr. Guzouris, in the press, regarding how he sees the Dutch masterplan for Thessaly and talks about peanut and mango crops to the traditional growers of Thessaly. He speaks of an example applied to Asia and Africa with thousands of acres of rice and through this vision he sees the region of Thessaly! But for the Government these are details, even though all the agencies, the TEE, the GEOTEE, the Chambers, the Region, the Local Government are opposite. We, however, see the “elephant in the room” and extend the voice of the Thessalians and tell you that this will not pass. Go and implement an example that has never been done in the world, an example of a mixture of African and Asian country in Thessaly.”
Concluding her presentation, Evangelia Liakoulis emphasized that “Things are simple. Straight words and straight words. Go to Thessaly to do an experiment and turn the Thessalians into guinea pigs. Forget that! There is absolutely no way! You have our people, our residents, our producers. We have the most PDO products, Thessaly is the orchard of heaven and we are going for record products with geographical indication recognition, we are quality producers and this is what we know how to do from generation to generation and we will do it in the best way. We will not give you the opportunity to make this a family affair and business as usual plan. We will not give you the opportunity to play on our pain, as you managed the Dutch masterplan that was financed by the Hellenic Banking Union with 940,000 euros excluding VAT. And all this for an alleged “gift” to Thessaly! Fear the Danaans and gift-bearers!”
