“Partridges” are Easter red eggs from the Grevena region, which before being dyed have gone through the process of painting (embroidery or decorating) with beeswax with the special tool “the kontyli”. It is a folk art that the creators (housewives) “embroider” the eggs inspired mainly by nature, (usually on the eve of Maundy Thursday) creating symmetrical, geometric designs and more, where the passion and imagination of each housewife is captured and produces a beautiful and unique creation every time.

This custom and the highlighting of the technique of adorning the Perdika of Greveni for the Association of Greveni of Kozani “ton Emiliano” is a priority since it has to do with the cultural heritage of the region, so that this unique custom can be preserved and remain in the next generations.

The Association of Greveniots of Kozani “o Emilianos” expresses its warm thanks to the ladies who took part and taught the technique of painting the Easter Partridges, Mr. Siola Georgios (member of the association) for the construction and provision of the contylios as well as all the ladies who attended, learned and made their own Partridges at the successful and now established event in recent years (since 2016) of making “Easter Partridges. All this action proves that this great and unique custom finds continuations in our modern society and a response from the new generation who embraced it with enthusiasm.
