In a letter to the deputies of Ioannina, the Hoteliers’ Association of the prefecture complains about the rapid increase in short-term rental accommodation, i.e. airbnb, saying that the number rented out in the city “continues to increase uncontrollably and has already exceeded 500 accommodations”. .

He summarizes results, such as the “rare increase in rent prices, major problems in finding housing, especially for special categories of our fellow citizens, such as students, teachers, soldiers and members of the security forces, an increase in waste and the burden on the services of the Municipality you, altering the character of local societies”.

Of course, some of these symptoms, such as very expensive rents, predated the “explosion” of airbnb in the city, which is indeed happening.

The hoteliers also refer to the “unfair competition that our legally operating businesses suffer from the above activity that operates completely uncontrolled and the phenomena of tax evasion and undeclared work that in many cases occur in the specific accommodations”.

They request the application of the law which, depending on the case and geographical area, does not allow the short-term rental of more than 2 properties per A.F.I. beneficiary and for more than 90 days per calendar year”.

The hoteliers consider that the conditions are met for Ioannina and request the implementation of the conditions, with the issuance of the relevant KYA.
