“As an educational community, we find that the government and the Ministry of Education ignore, once again, the surrogate mothers who work in Education”, reports the Association of Primary Education Teachers of Heraklion Prefecture “Dominikos Theotokopoulos”

The maternity allowance that will be given to self-employed mothers but excludes substitute teachers is referred to in an announcement by the Association of Primary Education Teachers of the Prefecture of Heraklion “Dominikos Theotokopoulos”, condemning this fact and asking for immediate inclusion in the new arrangement for the provision of an allowance for nine months and to mothers – workers in Education.
Specifically, the Association states:

“Enough with the unequal treatment! 9-month maternity leave for substitute teachers & full equalization of rights with those of permanent teachers!

The prime minister, in a public statement, said that mothers, regardless of whether they work in the private or public sector, will receive nine months of maternity pay. Unfortunately, however, this decision does not include substitute mother teachers, which constitutes unequal treatment and is at the same time a blatant injustice.

As an educational community, we find that the Government and Ministry of Education are ignoring, once again, surrogate mothers who work in Education. In a period where salaries are at rock bottom and accuracy sweeps all aspects of daily life (roof, fuel, food) substitute teachers travel around the country every year to serve the Public School, but with limited rights. That’s enough!

The Board of Directors of the Association of Teachers P.E. “D. Theotokopoulos” condemns in the most categorical way the blatant injustice and the unequal treatment of substitute teachers by the prime minister himself and calls for the immediate inclusion in the regulation for the nine-month maternity allowance and mothers-working in Education! At the same time, he asks the political leadership of the Ministry of Education to proceed with the immediate equalization of the rights of substitute teachers with those of permanent teachers”.
