Anastasios Adamopoulos, Deputy Regional Governor for Environment, Energy and Circular Economy and chairman of the Regional Committee for Environment and Spatial Planning, Spyros Tzinieris, Deputy Regional Governor for Spatial Planning and Real Estate Management, and Christos Lambropoulos, Deputy Regional Governor, gave a press conference on Thursday, April 25 at the Regional Headquarters in Tripoli , on the subject of the developments surrounding the Urban Planning of Megalopolis, but also more generally on the work of the Commission, which has met three times and, as they said, has already produced significant results.

Mr. Adamopoulos referred to the most important, as he pointed out, topic of the meeting, which was none other than “the positive opinion in the Strategic Environmental Impact Study for the special urban planner of Megalopolis, following the pre-approval of the special urban planner who has put the tools into operation which are necessary to enable us to achieve the goal of a just development transition. We also gave an opinion on RES, where we have said from the very beginning that we will deal with them on a case-by-case basis.”

Mr. Tzinieris said: “In recent decades we have been called upon to restore a situation that has been taking shape for decades. The EIA for Megalopolis was approved, and it ensures both the restoration of the natural environment, but also that Megalopolis will be able to accept business initiatives and we will be able to take advantage of the existing energy networks. Megalopolis is an energy hub and it would be impossible not to use it as such, but with friendly forms of energy that will give Megalopolis the transition it needs. EIAs are not uses. the next stage is, depending on the demand, to formulate more detailed studies”.

Mr. Lambropoulos said that it is very important that the Town Planning Plan was pre-approved. “We would have liked the decision to be unanimous, but it wasn’t. The pre-approval of the Special Town Planning Plan for which the regional governor ran was a way to make up for lost time. For Megalopolis the money allocated is much more than what was allocated for the Peloponnese Region. We express the certainty and commitment that we will continue so that Megalopolis changes course. Decisions must be made quickly, and this is done in the Commission.”
