He has been going around the world for the last few days the news of the divorce of Nikolaos Glyksburg and Tatiana Blatnik.
The international press dealing with the royals has devoted many publications to the couple, who have been one of the most beloved and beautiful couples in royal circles.
One of the details that is preoccupying the foreign media in the last few hours is whether Tatiana Blatnik will keep the title of “princess” that she received when she married Nikolaos, 14 years ago.
Although she doesn’t feel or act like a princess herself, there are rules and protocols regarding what is foreseen in a corresponding case. As People reports, the fate of royal titles inherited through marriage varies after divorce depending on the royal house.
Since there has been no modern precedent for what to do with Tatiana’s title, since none of Nicholas’ siblings have divorced, there is no protocol for them to follow. However, it seems the family has no intention of stripping her of the title, which she doesn’t use anyway.
“I don’t feel like a princess”
All these years that she was Nikolaos’ wife, there are very few times that Tatiana Blatnik has worn a tiara and appeared as a princess.
Shortly after her marriage, she declared:
“I don’t feel like a princess. I don’t feel like I married a prince, with a title. In fact, yes, he is my prince, but nothing more.”
Tatiana had spoken about the adjustment to life in Greece stating:
“I remember when we were driving, it felt like everyone was traveling in the opposite direction.” He also explained that he did not lead a particularly glamorous lifestyle in Greece, stressing: “I live a very simple life here. I work, I go to the supermarket, I cook, I walk my dog, and the Greek people have welcomed me as they would anyone else.”
The couple were last seen together at the memorial service in Windsor to mark the first anniversary of the death of Nicholas’ father, Constantine II.
