Every year the Easter table is more expensive – 40 minutes compared to last year the lamb “stung” – The simple bun is estimated to be sold with a 10% increase

Until 13.90 euros per kilo, with one an increase of about 40 minutes compared to last year, it will be sold the archer this year at the butchers of Heraklion.

At the same time, up to 10% we will see an increase in the price of the dishes that traditionally accompany the Easter table. I mean the bun and the calitsunia, which may exceed 13 and 14 euros per kilo respectively, with the excessive increases of up to 80% in flour, the pinched raw materials, but also the precision in the energy have, it seems, dragged everything along, even the Easter table of the Greek.

So this year, the prices of the protagonist of the festive table, the arrowroot, will range from 12.50 to 13.90 euros per kilo, from the 12 to 13.50 euros per kilo that ranged last year.

The kid will be sold at 13.50 euros per kilo. The sea urchins at 9 to 9.50 euros per kilo, the chick at 11 euros per kilo, the sycamore trees at 7-8 euros per kilo, the shorts at 7.50-8 euros per kilo and lamb liver at 12-12.50 euros per kilo.

Up to 13.90 euros per kilo, with an increase of about 40 cents compared to last year, the obelias will be sold this year in the butchers of Heraklion

Commenting on these prices, the president of the Association of Butchers of N. Heraklion, Lefteris Durakis he emphasized that “in several areas in the rest of Greece the prices are much higher than those in Crete. The prefecture of Heraklion is one of the cheapest prefectures in all of Greece. As butchers we support the Cretan producer and try to keep our prices low, satisfying the consumer. We try to source the best we can. While we sell at 12 euros, in other prefectures the price can reach 15 euros.”

Regarding the adequacy of the products, Mr. Durakis noted that “Crete currently has both the quality and the quantity of meat required to meet the needs of the consumer public. However, it is an island that also supplies the rest of Greece, so it would be good for consumers to contact the butcher in time. To order what they want, so that the butcher can also do his supplies. In this way we will all be satisfied and enjoy Easter.”

Bitter… the price in buns and calitsounias

An increase of 5-10%, due to the upward trend of raw materials and energy, we will see this year at Easter in Easter pastries. That’s how it is simple bun from the 12 euros per kilo sold last year, if it accepts a 10% increase as estimated, it is expected to reach 13.20 euros per kilo. Price that will be even more “bitten” if this bun is filled or has a chocolate coating, a product that has also taken off.

At the same time, the little girls from the 13 euros per kilo on average that were sold last year, with the flour and the prices in the mizithras having caught fire, we will see them reach 14.30 euros per kilo, a price not so sweet for the consumer.

Proficiency, of course, exists in all kinds, as he says the president of the Association of Bakers of Heraklion Prefecture “I Dimitra”, Vasilios Dafermos, with him, however, commenting on the price increases, stressing that “prices on products will have an increase of 5% to 10% compared to last year, due to the large increases in butter, grain, etc.” .

Indicative of the cost borne by the baker, after successive increases in raw materials and energy, doing everything humanly possible to absorb it so that the customer is not called upon to pay for it, is the fact that a pure cow’s butter sells for last 2 years and right after the war in Ukraine at 14.50 euros per kilo, from 9.50-10 euros that were sold until recently. That is, it has an increase of over 40%.

“How are you going to put that raw material into a product and at what price should you then sell it to the consumer? Sesame has also increased a lot. All flour and especially hard flour arrived from the Ukrainian war and after that it has increased by 80%. It was then that, as a branch, we put the last increase in bread. However, we always try to absorb this cost and not pass it on to our customers. Otherwise, village bread, for example, should be sold at least 1.90 euros per kilo, while as bakers we have managed to sell it at an average of 1.20 euros per kilo,” said Mr. Dafermos.

If one now adds labor, production and operating costs that a bakery has, the prices of the products sold to the consumer should have been at even higher prices. However, most bakeries in Heraklion try to keep them low, despite their prohibitive costs and the fact that many bakeries are at risk of foreclosure.
