One of the obstacles facing LAMDA Development’s investment in Elliniko, as well as the individual investments made by GEK TERNA and Hard Rock in the area, has to do with the delays in the works, due to the discovery of bombs from the Second World War.

The magnitude of the problem was revealed yesterday in a meeting held by the Mayor of Ellinikos, Argyroupoli, Yiannis Constantatos, with the representatives of the army and the special disaster team, in the context of information and cooperation on the controlled explosions that are taking place inside the former Ellinikos airport during the works that take place because of the investment.

The officers of the Land Mine Clearance Battalion informed the Mayor of Ellinikos Argyroupoli that 314 aviation bombs have been identified to date, among many more bombs and ammunition.

“The tragedy of the case is that the 314 bombs, which the Germans had stored, were 2 meters directly below the former facilities of the Pontian Sourmen Union, our kindergartens and sports facilities, which were located inside the former airport as well as next to Olympic Facilities ! In places where thousands of people used to enter every day!” said the Mayor of Hellinikon Argyroupoli, Yiannis Constantatos.
