We want to make a greener, cleaner and humane city which produces less waste and manages them properly, he pointed out mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, declaring the beginning the 8th Recycling Festival.

“Our goal is for recycling to become the new habit, the new fashion of the city. We want to move in this direction and change the image”, said the mayor of Thessaloniki.

“With the passing of the cleanliness regulation, one of our commitments was implemented, while in the next few days the neighborhood supervisors will take action,” said Mr. Angeloudis. Speaking at the opening of the festival, he thanked everyone who worked for its organization.

THE Deputy Mayor for Cleanliness, Recycling and Climate Crisis, Giorgos Dimarelos, stressed that “it is of great importance to shape a culture of recycling and to educate young children”.

It is worth noting that more than 700 students visited the recycling festival on the first day, which is held at the TIF Helexpo premises and will last until Friday, April 26.

Mr. Dimarelos insisted on the proper management of organic waste, which is estimated at over 40% to 50% in the green bin, and in the area of ​​Ladadiki over 50%.

“Reducing food waste and achieving a targeted percentage of organic matter and diverting it from the green bin is of great importance to us. Soon we will announce a tender to collect the organic from 500 large producers within the municipality for composting and biofuel production“.

Greetings at the opening ceremony were addressed the deputy governor of Digital Governance of the Central Macedonia Region, Nikos Tzolas, the general director of TIF Helexpo, Alexandros Tsaksirlisbut also representatives of recycling systems and companies participating in the festival.
