Adoptions are the first concern for the management of strays in the Municipality of Kozani

The Deputy Mayor of Kozani, Giorgos Evkolidis, set adoptions as a major goal for the next term, referring to the issue of stray dogs, following a question from the head of the minor opposition, Haris Kouziakis, at the Municipal Council meeting.

Mr. Evkolidis spoke about the tripartite collection, sterilization, adoption which governs the efforts of the new municipal authority, noting that the last part needs more organization and effort:

“The problem has not been solved, we cannot mock the citizens”, he stressed, with the Mayor adding that in the 4 months of 2024, 45 adoptions have taken place “while the previous year there were very few more”.

Informing the municipal council about the sterilization program, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor admitted that it was an initiative that was started by the previous municipal authority, with Giorgos Evkolidis, however, claiming that from October onwards they had stopped.

“There was a goal for 1300 and they didn’t go over 600 the way we’re going and following the pace, I won’t set a number, but it will be four figures.”

The Mayor, Yiannis Kokkaliaris, explained that by the term “front-load sterilization program” he meant that the desire of the municipal authority is for sterilizations to take place more quickly and more and he explained that nothing is taken for granted with the German volunteers who contribute to the effort

“The Germans are leaving or have left Veria, so we have to have a good relationship with them. You will also see a documentary showing what is happening here in Kozani, we are happy with these people and they with us because now work is being done and they can see it. It is a continuation of the previous municipal authority, we will develop what we found.”
