What the Appointed Consultant for Urban Green Matters Says About Tree Interventions in Various Places

Clarifications regarding the work carried out by his crews Municipality of Thessaloniki to trees in various parts of the city, Mr. Vasilis DiamantakisAppointed Consultant for urban green issues.

Mr. Diamantakis notes that the Municipality of Thessaloniki does not prune trees during this period, but only removes some lower branches.

Specifically, he notes:

“Necessary clarifications due to some posts made about “tree pruning”.

THE MUNICIPALITY OF THESSALONIKI IS NOT PRUNING THIS SEASON.

As I informed the Municipal Council, there are selective REMOVALS only of some LOWER Branches which:

Either they block PEDESTRIANS PASSING.

Either they block the LIGHTING of the Sidewalks.

Either they block the PASSAGE of City Buses.

Either they grow NEXT to the roots.

The roads on which intervention is carried out have been requested either with documents from the Directorate of Sustainable Mobility, or from the OATH, or from Civil Protection.

What is done helps the healthy growth of the tree upwards, and the aesthetic formation of its crown.

Let’s not demonize it all.

Pruning will be done in autumn-winter in accordance with the provisions of the regulations”.
