The father of Yannis Kallianos passed away at the age of 79. on Thursday morning.
In the past few days, the meteorologist and deputy of New Democracy, in a video he published on Facebook, described his father’s health adventure, Dimitris, leaving spikes for his treatment at the “Attiko” hospital.
The main objection of the family of Yannis Kallianos, was the stay of his 79-year-old father, outside the ICU for days, with the well-known meteorologist implying that if he had entered earlier, the evolution of his health might have been different.
With tears in his eyes, Mr. Kallianos accused the doctors of the hospital where his father had been hospitalized for days, for not paying due attention to his care. In fact, he reported directly to the doctor who operated on his father for the diabetic foot, as well as other doctors at the hospital, who claimed that the patient was doing well, according to what is mentioned in the video, while he suffered a seizure and was finally admitted to the ICU. “They will pay dearly for what they did to my father,” he said specifically.
Both, however, the administration of the nursing institution and the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, addressing the incident, assured that a specific protocol was followed to the letter which applies to every NHS patient.
The answer of Adonis Georgiadis
Speaking to SKAI today, Mr Adonis Georgiades, referred to the matter of Yiannis Kallianos. “I respect a man who fights to help his father. This is respectful, touching and completely understandable and in this sense G. Kallianos who is my friend has my understanding” he said specifically and added that there is also the side of the health system.
As the Minister of Health mentioned, Mr. Kallianos does not blame the NHS for a lack of doctors or for not finding a bed in the hospital, but for a wrong medical judgment. “As the minister of health, I am not involved in the judgment of doctors”, he underlined and added that for a patient to enter an ICU, the treating doctor must declare him on a platform and the transfer procedure to the nearest one must be followed.
“The first criterion is the intubated patient,” clarified Mr. Georgiadis, then emphasizing that for a patient to be admitted to the ICU, “there is no discrimination if you are a member of parliament.”

As he characteristically wrote in his post on Tuesday, Yannis Kallianos “today half of my life was cut off. I still hope that with the help of the Virgin Mary the rest will not be cut off as well. They will pay dearly for what they did to my father”.
“I want to say some things not to make you feel sorry for me, but to expose some people who have brought my family to this situation. My father is a man who suffers from many problems, he also has sugar, is on dialysis and has a diabetic foot. Before 15 days he entered Voula as he blackened his finger.
In Voula they treated him very well, but he had to go to another hospital – (I won’t say it now, I will say it in a few days) as the meteorologist said, describing then the agony and calvary of his family during the days of hospitalization .
My father went to this public hospital and had his big toe amputated. For the next five days he was doing well. On the sixth day he was full. My brother is a doctor in Cyprus and he came and saw him and told him to enter the platform and be admitted to the ICU, Yannis Kallianos continued, stressing that the doctors assured him that his father was fine.
“The doctors told me that we all sign that Mr. Kallianos is fine,” he said, among other things, and continued: “My brother begged them to put him in ICU.”

The hospital’s response
Yesterday, the Attikon hospital responded to the complaints of the New Democracy MP regarding his father’s hospitalization. In particular, the hospital’s announcement provided clarifications on the hospitalization of 79-year-old Dimitris Kallianos.
“We understand the emotional burden, we sympathize with the human pain of the family and we are doing all we can for the best possible development of this serious and complex incident,” the hospital concluded in its statement.
“It is clarified that the admission of patients to every ICU in the country is done under strict conditions and criteria and after they are registered on a centrally controlled platform of the EKAB, criteria which the specific patient did not meet until 4/23”, the announcement said.
