Positions and opinions on the TEE on the occasion of the May elections for the selection of a new administration are presented by the current president and head of the faction “Associating Engineers – DCM” Yiannis Tsigros.
In his article he states:
On the occasion of the elections for the selection of the new bodies of the Administration of the Department of Epirus of the Technical Chamber on May 19, we must remember the discrediting role that the other two factions that once again claim their participation in the Administration of the Department had created for our Department in the upcoming elections.
In that negative climate for the TEE in our region, we submitted a complete vision for the new role we want to give to our Department. We asked to create a modern extroverted TEE that will have a say in society and anticipate developments, while highlighting the role of the Engineer. Despite the fact that we managed to be voted in by 42% of our colleagues, we managed to manage only the second half of the term, since the conditions of simple proportionality required greater convergences to create an administration.
As soon as we took over, we tried to understand the external conditions that are taking shape and how we will be able to highlight the dominant role that belongs to the Technical Chamber, in an era where we have now overcome the scope of the difficult memorial years. We found that the signs of development are now evident, as expressed by the continuous increase in GDP, and a key pillar for the creation of development involves the role of the Engineer. Now the branch of Engineering is a dominant role in almost every administrative act, after the recognition of the 13 main specialties, following continuous initiatives of the president of the TEE and our fellow citizen, George Stassinos.
In order to be able to understand the external conditions, we created a close collaboration with the administration of the Central TEE, so that we can participate in all the developments concerning the national planning of the actions. For example, now that the TEE has undertaken the completion of the Local Urban Plans (TPS), which essentially contributes to the completion of the Urban Planning of our region, with a clear impact on its balanced development, while preserving its environmental footprint region, our Department will play an important role. At this time, serious Town Planning Plans have been tendered and are being implemented both for our city and for the entire Epirus.
In addition to these, our Department, in the context of extroversion, undertook important actions in all local events. Specifically, he participates as a Technical Advisor of the Municipality of Ioannito in the completion of the effort to include our city in the 100 climate neutral and smart cities, implementing for the first time in our country the institution of the Neighborhood Engineer. Action with which we will contribute to the regeneration of neighborhoods and areas of our city, with the aim of reducing their energy footprint and improving the quality of life of its residents. For the above action, we have already received an honorable mention award from the European Union, significantly strengthening the extroverted role of our Department.
At the same time, we have achieved a close collaboration with the Polytechnic School of Ioannina, aiming to highlight and preserve our cultural heritage, but at the same time highlighting the benefits of technological development, implementing and proposing artificial intelligence systems.
For all of the above, we held workshops in collaboration with the Polytechnic School for the promotion and protection of the Historical area of Souli as well as for other monuments in our region, for the adaptation of traditional materials to modern construction, for the renovations of the Public spaces of the cities , for the pre-earthquake checks in Public buildings, but also for the promotion of the application of artificial intelligence in our daily life, as well as for the removal of the isolation of the remote areas of Epirus.
Our goal is to achieve the connection of research with the labor market, strengthening both the institution of the Polytechnic School and the TEE. At the same time, we succeeded in making our Department an Examination Center for the Professional License, strengthening the position of our institution, but at the same time strengthening the prestige of the Polytechnic School.
We submitted proposals for all the key issues concerning our region, such as for example the Special Environmental Studies of Natura areas, the River Basin Management Plan, but also for the armoring of Arta’s Flood Protection, the treatment of the smog phenomenon that plagues the city of Ioannina and for the inclusion of the region of Zagori in the Unesco list.
We also honored distinguished colleagues for their work, recognizing the important role they contributed to the development of our region. Colleagues such as Thanasis Zygouris, Michalis Arapoglou, Panagiotis Papanikolas, Eleni Pagratiou and Vassilis Charisis, were honored for their contribution to the country and gave the impetus to the new colleagues to follow the path of creation that they have carved out.
At the same time, we seek and have submitted proposals for our participation in various Interreg transnational programs, which will enable us to prepare more comprehensive proposals for key issues in our region, for the first time in the history of the Department, while also contributing to the rationalization of fees of Engineers.
In a period of just two years, we managed to create a modern and extroverted TEE of Epirus, which directly receives all the stimuli of the local society and submits proposals for all matters concerning the wider region of Epirus and Lefkada. We are also committed to organizing the functioning of the Prefectural Committees, which are under-functioning, so that each Regional Unit has a say in its local events and the issues of Epirus are dealt with in a unified way for its balanced development, fully preserving its environmental reserve.
In the elections of May 19, we ask for the support of our colleagues to continue this extroverted course, with the aim of completing all the Urban Planning of our region, to join more transnational programs and other European funding which will bring direct income to our fellow Engineers. We ask for the dynamic support of colleagues, in order to continue the effort to create a strong Technical Chamber with a modern discourse and views, far from the discredit it has had in recent years, with a focus on upgrading the role of Engineers.
