The designation of the Kaiafas area as Natura does not leave much room for the Region of Western Greece to intervene, as underlined during yesterday’s Regional Council, the deputy governor of Ilia, Nikos Korovesis, in response to a related question by Kostas Diamantopoulos regarding its utilization.

Mr. Korovesis emphasized that the program in which Caiaphas had joined did not concern the Administrative Authority, since the Administrative Authority cannot finance an area designated as Natura.

“The specific program concerned EPANEK which is a sectoral program of the Ministry of Economy. Obviously, relative immaturity put it out of the program and it was included,” he noted characteristically, adding that the reintegration of the project is only possible through a financial tool of the Ministry of the Environment. Subsequently, the Deputy Governor of Ilias referred to the actions and contacts he had made with ETAD as the Deputy Governor of Culture, which, as he pointed out, have been initiated.

The first was to include Kaiafas in the special spatial planning plans for tourism with Mr. Korovesis stressing that the relevant decision is expected from the Secretary General of Spatial Planning and Urban Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Thymios Bakoyannis, the second that after pressure from the Regional Authority and deputies of Ilia, a call for interest was issued for the business plan of Kaiafas and the third was the utilization of Para Thin’ Alos and the wider area.
