Two of the Royal Cavalry’s horses are in a serious condition after they escaped during an exercise and ran wild in the streets of London.

Four people were injured when at least two horses broke loose and started running without riders in central London on Wednesday morning (24.04.2024).

Defense Secretary James Cartledge told SkyNews on Thursday morning: “There were five horses. All have been identified. Three of them are fine, the other two are unfortunately in a relatively serious condition. We will closely monitor their condition.”

He added that they are in serious condition but are still alive.

The minister also confirmed the names of the two animals, Vida and Quaker.

British Army horses escaped during an exercise and were reportedly spooked by construction workers who dropped rubble from a height right next to them.

Photos circulating on social media show two animals, one white covered in blood and the other black, galloping down a boulevard, passing a scooter.

Ambulances were called to three different locations and took four people to hospital.

British media quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the windows of a taxi and a bus were broken.

“People were stopping in the street in shock. The horses ran in a daze and looked terrified. A few police cars were chasing them, but that didn’t help.” an eyewitness said,

“I looked in the mirror and saw them coming right behind me and at the time I had two customers in the back seat so I was worried about them”, said a taxi driver. “Thankfully they moved to the center of the road and continued, but they were going fast.”
