“It is the duty of all of us and the police to bring justice to the memory of our hero Giorgos Lyggeridis,” said his cousin, Katerina, visibly moved, on Thursday morning.
As he said about the MAT police officer “he was murdered unjustly and cowardly in the line of duty” adding that “we all have a share of responsibility as citizens because no one acts or speaks to put an end to the violence”.
“We remain uninvolved because we are afraid of getting involved, until the door knocks on us and we lose one of our own people. When we see a criminal at 16, 18 and we do nothing but continue to go to the stadiums as normal. Do you know why this happens? Because we know that punishment will not come to these people and they will be free” he added.
“What we are asking is that the guilty be punished and that we all help to end this criminality in society and fear, to bring peace and order. Let the sacrifice of Yogos be the trigger for a safe society” concluded Giorgos Lyggeridis’ cousin, concluding as follows:
“We should take an example from these children and not from the criminals.”
