“New Landscapes”. Giorgos Hadoulis invites us to share them with him

--

A look at his works George Hadoulis just enough to hear a deep “Ah!” from your heart Because his paintings take you on a journey through time and place, to your own summers (past and future), to those corners where you rested to see the sea beckoning you from afar and left to what the beauty of nature imposes on you . Those found in Skoufa gallery on the night of the opening of the exhibition, on April 11, everyone met in the same pulse of excitement.

And he happily embraced fellow artists, friends and loved ones, received congratulations from strangers who saw in his work the magical power that makes the unknown completely familiar. Besides, isn’t this the power of painting? Think it’s summer, when it’s spring and you’re in Kolonaki?

In his eleventh solo exhibition at Skoufa gallery, Giorgos Hadoulis presents a series of 23 works, which he has created over the last three years. These are large scale oils on canvas and inks on paper. As in all his previous units, the painter turns to his obsessions. He draws his inspiration from images deeply rooted in his memory, from places where he has lived or gone to explore. With his own characteristic writing he transports us to a world where one can wander and search for one’s own personal memories.

“These works are based on real landscapes but are painted freely. But I know them well, I have dived from the rocks into their seas, I know when their waters are cold or warm. I am lying in the shade of the pines. There’s resin from those trees stuck to my swimsuit. I know how dry the ears are. I have seen the moon rise behind the hills and I think how many before me will have felt all this as I have and how many after me,” he says in the exhibition’s introductory note.

His gift

What is the greatest gift of the artist born in 1966 with roots shared in Andros and France? The ability to make a world with hasty and sure strokes (I’ve seen him do it) framing its dimensions. It can be his own studio, it can be the Acropolis, it can be the view of the sea from a hillside, it can be shaded by trees or greened by grass. The important thing is that he succeeds in creating an irresistible desire in the viewer to “enter” what he designed.

Cosmopolitan and at the same time deeply Greek, thoughtful and well-read but cheerful and light-hearted, “myopic” in the details he retains and “presbyopic” in the silhouettes he paints, Hadoulis is a complete painter with whatever he tackles. As part of the exhibition, the artist will talk to the journalist Katerina Lymberopoulou, at the “Skoufa” gallery, on Saturday, April 27, at 12:30 p.m. The exhibition will last until May 11.
