Important rising against 18.7% recorded the air arrivals from abroad against in the first quarter of 2024while the road arrivals moved up by 12% over the same period.

According to his report card statistics INSETby January up to and including March this year, they were recorded 1.6 million international air arrivals, surpassing the levels of the 1st quarter of 2023 while there was an increase of 18.7%, which translates into 253,000 arrivals. In particular, 485,000 international arrivals were recorded in January, showing an increase of 25.3%, in February arrivals were up by 19.5% and in March by 13.8%.

In the airport of Heraklion an increase of 40.4% was recorded and the international ones air arrivals amounted to 25,000 while on the contrary at the airport of Chania the arrivals had reduction 19.8%. At the airport of Rhodes, 19,000 international air arrivals were recorded, showing an increase of 72.9%, while on the contrary, at the airport of Santorini, 2,000 international arrivals were recorded, showing a decrease of 39.7%. In Corfu, international air arrivals reached 8,000, showing a marginal increase of 4.1%.

An increase in road arrivals as well

In the 1st quarter of 2024 they were recorded 1.2 million international road arrivals, compared to 1.1 million in the period January-March 2023, showing an increase of +12. An increase was recorded by all neighboring countries in relation to the corresponding period of 2023 with the exception of North Macedonia which recorded a decrease of 3.8% with road arrivals reaching 315 thousand.

Travel Receipts

The period January-February 2024, travel receipts showed an increase of 24.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to 570 million euros. This development is due to the increase in receipts from residents of European Union countries by 60.2%, which amounted to 304 million euros, as receipts from residents of non-EU countries decreased by 0.9% and amounted to 261 million euros.

More specifically, the collections from residents of euro area countries amounted to 241 million euros, increased by 48.9%, while receipts from residents of EU countries outside the euro zone increased by 125.1% and amounted to 63 million euros. In particular, receipts from Germany increased by 48.7% and amounted to 59 million euros, while receipts from France decreased by 12.9% and amounted to 34 million euros.

From the countries outside the EUreceipts from the United Kingdom were down 11.7% to €33 million, while receipts from the US were up 20.9% to €46 million.

Quality indicators of Greek hotels and competitors

In the 1st quarter of 2024, Greece holds the first place in the general satisfaction index (GRI) of hotels with 87%. In second place is Cyprus with 86% and in third place Turkey, Italy and Spain with 85% respectively. In last place was France with 82%.
