A five-year (2025-2030) investment program of 15 million euros aimed at strengthening its competitiveness is being launched by the Poultry of Ioannina, which operates under the brand “Epirotika Avga”. According to what was pointed out by the management yesterday in the context of an information event, these investments come after the completion of an investment program of 15 million euros that related to the five years 2019-2024.

Having seven poultry farms in Bizani and 5 cage-free production poultry farms (Barn & Free Range) in Kalpaki, reaches 250,000 eggs per day from 300,000 hens, accounting for 10% of the Greek egg production share. In the Greek market of pasteurized egg products, where it operates through its sister company Ovo Fresco, it has a 45% share and a significant export footprint (30% of turnover comes from exports) with a presence in the Balkans, Cyprus and Eastern European countries.

Through the investment plan of the previous five years, the company proceeded to renewal of fleet, egg collection machines (use of robotics) and change of pasteurization complex and packaging machines for OvoFresco, while an important investment for the company was the creation of a standard cage-free egg production unit with a capacity of 110K hens in Kalpaki.

In the context of the sustainable development of the company’s green transition, a part of the investments made from 2019 until today, was spent on achieving the energy autonomy of the facilities, through the installation of 1MW photovoltaic power. At the same time, the company has achieved the best possible management of waste (full recycling) and liquid sewage (biological purification), while it also collects manure from poultry farms, which is used for the production of soil improver for agricultural use, thus achieving the implementation of circular standards. economy..

It is noted that the company for the next five years has structured a strategic plan that includes the creation of a second alternative breeding unit with a capacity of 200 thousand chickens, with the aim of 70% of the production coming from cage-free chickens, exceeding the European average. Priority will also be given to the further development of Ovo Fresco, with the installation of new technological equipment and the creation of new refrigeration and storage areas, which will contribute to the production of new innovative egg products and the strengthening of autonomy.
