The said event entitled “Third Age: Our People!” was organized in the context of the implementation of actions and information interventions on elderly issues

On Wednesday, April 24, the “Social Awakening” event for the elderly took place with a large turnout and strong interest in the event hall of KEKOFAPI in the Talos area. The said event entitled “Third Age: Our People!” it was organized in the context of the implementation of actions and information interventions on elderly issues and is part of a more general awareness campaign that is in collaboration with the Deputy Mayor of Social Care and the Directorate of Social Development of the Municipality of Heraklion.

The personalities who participated as speakers focused on issues related to the following thematic areas:

* The Most Reverend Bishop of Knossos, Mr. Methodios, analyzed the role of the Church and faith in the daily life of the elderly and how the concepts of solidarity, love and selfless support can be expressed towards an elderly person so that they acquire real value and essence of life , but also in the part of the teachings of the Church, for the attention and care of our elderly parents or grandparents and especially for achieving a harmonious relationship based on reciprocity.

* Mr. Antonios Paspaliaris, Director of Social Development of the Municipality of Heraklion referred to the evolutionary path from the establishment of KAPI to the creation and operation of the Community Care Centers and to the qualitative differences in upgrades and improvements that have come over time, as well as to the special ways that the Community Centers Care contribute to the formation of conditions for healthy and active aging through the provided social services.

* Mr. Symeon Panagiotakis, Pathologist (Geriatrician), Director of ESY – PAGNI described the terms and conditions on which successful aging is based and to what extent it is possible and what exactly vaccines offer to the elderly and what is their beneficial effect in the context of culture of health promotion in the third age.

* Mrs. Fotini Anastasiou, General Practitioner, Director of ESY, Coordinator of the Municipal Clinic of Heraklion – of the 4th TOMY, presented the approach to elderly patients with high morbidity and described the symptomatology of elderly patients with cognitive disorders.

* Mrs. Konstantina Vairamaki, Psychologist, Support Executive for Women Survivors of Violence – Association of Members of Women’s Associations of Heraklion outlined the conditions of violence against elderly women at the intra-family level and referred to the appropriate and correct approach of an elderly woman who is in the position of a victim of violence and any form of abuse.

* Ms. Sofia Thanasoula, Psychologist, Responsible for the Victim Management Program – Association of Members of Women’s Associations of Heraklion presented the symptoms of an abuser and especially an elderly person in the field of domestic violence and the ways in which elderly victims of violence are approached in an intrapartnership environment and level .

The event was coordinated by the Social Worker Mr. Giorgos Saridakis, while a greeting was addressed by the Deputy Mayor of Social Welfare of the Municipality of Heraklion, Mr. George Tsagarakis, while the Head of the KOIFAPI 3rd Community department, Mrs. Irini Papadopoulou (as hostess), was present of the COIFAPI 4th ​​Community department Mrs. Valia Sarakinaki, the Head of the COIFAPI 2nd Community department Mrs. Poly Agoraki, the Deputy Head of the Social Policy, Innovative Actions, Public Health and Gender Equality department Mr. Argyro Tsamandoura.

In addition, the work of the event was attended by social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, family assistants and physiotherapists of KECOIF. and mainly several elderly beneficiaries of the social services in question.
