World Book Day
The director of the Kosmios Primary School, Androniki Pantelidou, announced the following: World Book Day, also known as World Book & Copyright Day or International Book Day, is celebrated every year on April 23 by the educational, scientific and cultural organization of the United Nations ( UNESCO) aimed at promoting reading, publishing and copyright.

The first World Book Day was celebrated on April 23, 1995 and continues to be recognized on that day. On the occasion of the World Book Day each year, UNESCO together with the advisory committee from the major branches of the book industry, choose the world book capital for a year. Each designated World Book Capital holds a program of activities to celebrate and promote books and reading.

Why do we celebrate it every year on the same day?
The original idea came in 1922 from Vicente Clavel, director of the Cervantes publishing house in Barcelona, as a way to honor the author Miguel de Cervantes. It was first celebrated on October 7, 1926, Cervantes’ birthday before being moved to the date of his death on April 23, 1930. The celebration continues with great popularity in Catalonia, where it is referred to as Sant Jordi Day or Day of Books and Roses .

In 1995, UNESCO decided that World Book Day would be celebrated on April 23, as the date is also the anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, as well as the anniversary of the birth or death of several other prominent authors . The guest of Kosmio Elementary School was the author Andriana Delegou, who presented her book and spoke to the young students about the dangers of the internet.
