The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Kyriakos Hyacinthos signed a Program Agreement, according to which the Ministry of Culture assigns to University of Thessaloniki the development of study programs and the definition of the necessary infrastructure for the establishment of a State School of Film and Audiovisual Media. The Ministry of Finance finances the project with a budget of 260,000 from the Recovery Fund.

The establishment and operation of the new School aims to train highly specialized film and audio-visual media technicians, so that they can respond to the increased demand, both for domestic audio-visual production and for international film productions. The purpose of the program contract is to formulate eight specialized study programs, with an emphasis on new skills, which will form the core of the education provided by the School and to describe the necessary building infrastructure, in two different locations, for the establishment of the School.

The implementation of the project is entrusted to a research group of professors, who treat related subjects in Greek universities, but also in corresponding prestigious schools abroad, as well as with the participation of professionals of each specialty who enjoy wide recognition from the world of domestic purchase.

The drafting of each study program is assigned to a four-member committee, under the supervision of a seven-member research team consisting of seven faculty members from Greek universities, while a total of 32 specialist scientists, artists and technicians will be employed in the research project. Apostolos Karakasis, professor of the Cinema Department of the School of Fine Arts of the AUTH, is appointed scientifically responsible for the implementation of the programming contract.

The establishment of a School of Cinema and Audiovisual Media is a central priority of the Ministry of Culture. The project is part of the general policy of the Ministry of Culture for the strengthening of the cinematographic and audiovisual sector. It aims to train high-level professionals, by providing accredited and recognized studies, which will meet the increased demand in new and traditional specialties in the audiovisual sector. The Ministry of Culture trusts, in this important project at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, so that the study programs are fully aligned with international trends, the quality requirements of modern film producers, the needs of the market, but also the imperative of extroversion and competitiveness of of Greek cinematography.
