Impressive performances by the athletes of the Secondary School of Ioannina

The O.E.S.A.D. team performed the best performance in recent years. of Ioannina at the Panhellenic School Athletics Championship held in Serres on April 22-23.

The tally was four medals and very important distinctions. In more detail, Siomos-Gizas Philippos won a gold medal in the 2,000m with natural obstacles, achieving the best performance of all time in this event, in a school championship with 5.49.12.

Gold medal also for Rapti Zoi in the triple jump with a performance of 12.92 which is also a limit for the World Championship U20. Giorgos Tassioulas took second place and a silver medal in the 1,500m, while Magda Malatou won the bronze medal in the long jump.

Fourth place for Jason Siozos in the 400m hurdles with a performance of 55’53” which is a limit for the U18 European Championship. Seventh place for Markos Kostopoulos in the 400m and Raptis Grigoris in the triple jump, eighth place for Thomas Anastasis in the long jump and Papadopoulou Stavroula in the 3,000m, ninth place for Oikonomou Evangelos in the 200m and Vardaki Konstantina in the high jump and 11th place for Niki Lianou in the 100m and Papachristou Iliana in the 1,500m with a great individual record.

After the successes, the Director of Secondary Education of Ioannina, Stamatoula Logothetis, says in her statement: “The Directorate of Secondary Education congratulates the students who participated, competed and distinguished themselves in the Panhellenic School Athletics Championship that took place in Serres on April 22-23, 2024. With their constant effort and dedication to sports, they managed to star and win the title of champion. Warm congratulations to the teachers and coaches of our students who supported the athletes in the “nice” the “big” and the “true” that characterizes the sports ideal.

Correct sport promotes cooperation, teamwork, noble competition, acting as an antidote to school bullying and, more generally, to the phenomena of violence that plague modern societies, ensuring conditions of a safer, happier and friendlier environment for our children and society whole.
