Based on last year’s plan, the irrigation in Larissa-Karditsa

A meeting to discuss the issues of irrigation of all the irrigated areas of Karditsa and Larissa that use the water of Lake Plastira and Smokovo was convened by the General Secretary of Decentralized Administration Konstantinos Tzanakoulis in collaboration with the Water Directorate of Thessaly.

At the meeting, held on the occasion of the start of the irrigation season, it was decided to follow last year’s plan, which was highly successful. The conditions this year regarding Lake Plastira are better than last year but that does not mean that there is no need for prudence and not wasting water that is so necessary. On the contrary, Smokovo Lake (dam) does not have the water needed by the irrigated lands and here it was emphasized that more attention is needed. Because the last rains were extremely beneficial, the proposal to everyone is to avoid irrigation of the seedling, mainly of the cotton crops, in order to save water.
