Her commander special coordination service of the Recovery Fund, Orestis Kavalakis characterized the AEGIS program as a “landmark program for Civil Protection in our country”.

“Never in the past has our country had at its disposal such important resources for civil protection and which are directed to the protection of the natural and residential environment and above all to the protection of the life and property of citizens. The multi-layered response to the intensity of the threat posed by the climate crisis and the undiminished commitment to the implementation of projects are catalysts for mitigating the inevitable effects of climate change. Resilience to the climate crisis requires planning and coordination. The AEGIS program is here, it is being implemented and it is our duty under the guidance of the minister and the services of the Ministry of Civil Protection with the valuable contribution of TAIPED and all of us who coordinate the funding to continue the effort with the sole purpose of completing it”. underlined Mr. Kavalakis.

The utilization of available community resources was mentioned by Special Secretary for Programs of the European Regional Development Office and Cohesion Fund, G. Zervos. “It is very important to utilize the available community resources and in this particular case this is done through the close cooperation between the two ministries”, he pointed out.

Also, O Director of Financing Greece and Cyprus at the European Investment Bank Yannis Kaltsas he emphasized that it is not only about the protection of the citizens of Greece but also the protection of the citizens of the EU, “since one of the conditions for the financing of this project by our institution is the connection of this effort of our country with the efforts of all the countries of Europe so that there is a common European policy regarding the fight against natural disasters, the protection of European citizens”.

“It is therefore a pleasure for us that we made available a credit line of 595 million euros for this effort which allowed the Greek state to quickly issue the tenders so that funds of free money coming from the Recovery Fund, from the NSRF and other sources. It is one of the key investments that the Greek state can make. Because prevention is always much better than dealing with the consequences”, he noted.
