Yesterday, Tuesday 23/4, the event of the KOB of the Ionian University of the KKE and the Student OB of the KNE entitled “EU-University-Research: Myths and Truths” was successfully held in a hall of the Ionian University in Corfu.

Then, he referred to Higher Education and Private Universities, he argued the unconstitutionality of the law and Article 16, due to the illogical, paradoxical, illegal (mis)interpretation of the Constitution. He stated that the public universities are not only not being upgraded, but are collapsing. HEIs will be run and run like businesses, downgraded, and closed. They want to build supermarkets of knowledge and the cost-benefit relationship, which exists in society anyway, will be the one that will determine how the universities will operate, which departments will be closed. This is reflected, for example, in the final abolition of the Department of Regional Development in Lefkada. As also, he mentioned, with this criterion even the TXGMD could be closed, if a translation department is built in Athens.
The attack on the Greek University has been going on for years, the plan of the governments throughout time is to close the public Universities, that education is not a public good. Today in the University, in research, in science as a whole, noble competition should be cultivated and not competition, not the cost-benefit criterion, not the operation of universities with private economic criteria.
Giorgos Kentrotis closed his speech by saying that today the KKE is exposing the attack that the youth and teachers are facing, but the struggle must continue and grow stronger. High education requires high vigor and not applause of the current government policy. Knowledge must be a free good, research infrastructure and science superstructure, as Marx said. These must be done for an exclusively public and free university.
