THE Minister of Shipping, Christos Stylianidisstated that Greece and the United Kingdom have an increasingly dynamic role of Greece in the international shipping scene and are in good cooperation, both for the achievement of the green transition and for the development – planning – of radical but also realistic policies.

During his speech at an event organized by the Hellenic-British Chamber, in honor of the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee.

As H. Stylianidis pointed out in his related statement, Greece is a world power in the field of shipping and from this position it continues its close cooperation with the United Kingdom.

Today we are here to honor the Hellenic Maritime Cooperation Committee. The known to all of us “Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee”, which has been operating since 1935 at the initiative of the Greek maritime community of London. From my position, as Minister of Shipping, I would like to assure continued close cooperation with the Committeethrough its Bureau, as a dynamic voice of the Greek fleet outside Greece.

Greece, as is known, is a global shipping power. It brings together one of the largest communities of boat owners worldwide. The ships managed by Greece are today at historically high levels. They break the barrier of 5,500 ships! A key feature of Greek-owned shipping is that Greek shipowners are constantly investing in new, energy-efficient ships and environmentally friendly equipment».

At the same time, he stated that the Greek government fully shares the need to achieve environmental neutrality of shipping activities by 2050 and that the sustainable development of the maritime transport sector and the protection of the environment are a priority. “We actively support the process of developing realistic medium and long-term measures, which will lead to carbon neutral shipping. Greece and United Kingdom bthey sing together, in loving partnershipboth to achieve the green transition and to develop – design – radical but also realistic policies“, he noted characteristically.

Concluding his speech, H. Stylianidis emphasized that the promotion of the sustainable “blue economy” is high on the government’s agenda while underlining the need for lifelong training as well as the continuous upgrading of the skills of the human capital, seafarers, so that they can keep up with the continuous technological changes and the modern requirements of the industry, as they are a prerequisite for the safe and environmentally friendly operation of ships.
