Tonight in the Attic sky the “Pink Full Moon”

Tonight the sky will be lit up by April’s full moon, also known as the ‘Pink Full Moon’.

On the evening of Wednesday, April 24, we will see the full moon of April in the Attic – and not only – sky, with its brightness peaking in Greece at 02:39 am. It takes its name from the plant “Phlox subulata” which usually blooms in the month of April and has a characteristic pink color, which dominates the natural landscape of Northeast America.

During its duration, the Moon will usually appear slightly larger and brighter, but it is not pink. Specifically, sometimes this full moon may appear to have a very slight pink tint for a few moments, though this is due to the reflection of sunlight.

It is noted that when the full moon of April falls before the vernal equinox, it is called “Lenten Moon“, while when it takes place after the equinox, it is called “Easter Moon». It also has other names such as:

  • The Moon That Breaks the Ice
  • The Moon of plants and shrubs
  • The Moon where the currents are buoyant again
  • The Moon showing the red grass
  • The Frog Moon
