Blockade from the Areopagus to the Spartans – They will not participate in the European elections

A block from the Areopagus to the Spartans, as the combination they had submitted was not declared, thus excluding them from the European elections.

The Spartan party was “cut off” by the Areopagus and will not participate in the upcoming European elections of June 9, 2024.

Finally, 31 parties and coalitions of parties out of the 46 that had initially declared participation in the Supreme Court’s Prosecutor’s Office, received the “green light” from the A1 Political Department of the Supreme Court to participate in the European elections.

Several parties did not pay the fee of 20,000 euros required by the electoral legislation, as a result of which they were automatically excluded from the electoral contest.

ND, PASOK, New Left had filed a memorandum against the Spartans

It is recalled that ND, PASOK and New Left had submitted memorandums in the previous days to the Areio Pagos against the participation of the Spartans, emphasizing the relations with the goldsmith Ilias Kasidiaris, who was convicted for a criminal organization. ND, in its memorandum, noted that this is the natural leader of the party and requested the exclusion of the party from the European elections.

Awaiting the Electoral Court’s decision on the Spartans

Meanwhile, developments are soon expected from the Electoral Court, which will decide whether the Spartans should lose their seats in the Parliament, in case it judges that their natural leader is the one convicted of participating in a criminal organization and incarcerated in Ilias prison Scurfy. Which will either lead to a proportional distribution of their seats to the other parties, or to repeat elections in the districts where they were elected.
