The Spartans are out of the European elections – They were “cut” by Areios Pagos

--

The Spartan party was “cut off” by the A1 Political Department of the Supreme Court and will not participate in the upcoming European elections of June 9, 2024.

Thus, 31 parties and coalitions of parties out of the 46 that had initially declared participation at the Supreme Court’s Prosecutor’s Office, received the “green light” to take part in the European elections.

Several parties did not pay what was required by the electoral law parabola of 20,000 euros, as a result of which they are automatically excluded from the electoral contest.

It is recalled that in the previous days ND, PASOK and New Left had submitted memorandums to the Areopagus against the participation of the Spartans. With these, they argued that there is a relationship between the party and the Golden Dawn prisoner, Ilias Kasidiaris, and that he is the real leader of the Spartans.

In addition, the 11 MPs of the party are facing the crime of cheating the electorate. And this is because, after the investigation carried out by the prosecutor of the Supreme Court after the complaints of the president Vassilis Stiga about Greek Mafia methods, it was judged that there are indications that Kasidiaris is hiding behind the Spartans.

It should be noted that he is exempt from prosecution only the president, Vassilis Stigas

Judgment from the Electoral Court?

Well-informed sources do not exclude the decision of the Electoral Court to be published today.

Judges of the Supreme Special Court will decide whether the Spartan MPs should to fall out of their office, and one question is what will happen to their “leader” since Vassilis Stigas is the only one of the 12 who is not being prosecuted. If he ultimately makes a decision to discount, the second question is what will happen to the seats? of the Spartans, for which the court itself will give the answer.

In other words, if he considers that this party was controlled by Kasidiaris, then he will have to proceed with the annulment of their election, with the opinion held by the constitutionalists arguing that these seats should be redistributed to the other parties based on their electoral strength. The seats, as constitutionalists say, cannot be occupied by runners-up from the same party because the court will have established that this party could not declare deputies. The scenario of setting up new polls does not seem to be gaining ground, since as the lawyers themselves argue, this would only happen if the seats had legally gone to another party (Tsovola case).

In any case, the justice’s decisions spark developments, since the next step for the state is to investigate what to do with the funding of the Spartans. And that’s because in the case of Golden Dawn, the legislation that had been filed provided for the suspension of funding when party members are in pre-trial detention, which is not currently the case with the Spartans.
