New incident domestic violence noted in Thessaloniki, with a 55-year-old man rushing to beat his wife and their young son when the wife asked him for money to pay for their child’s private lessons.

After his arrest, the man was taken to stand trial in Autoforno Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki and was found guilty of the serial domestic threat charge and sentenced to 18 months in prison. The court decided to suspend the execution of the sentence, under the conditions that the man leaves the family home and is prohibited from approaching his wife and his 13-year-old son within 100 meters.

“He told me that he has no money and that I should go to work to earn money. There was a commotion and he got up to hit me. Our son stepped forward to stop him and grabbed him by the collar, by the arm and threw him down,” the woman told the judges, stressing that this is not the first incident of domestic violence involving her and his son. minor their son by the accused.

“Me too child we are afraid, we don’t know how he will react. I have made another report of domestic violence last month and I have gone to the point of hiding all the knives in the house because we are afraid,” the woman noted.

The father is particularly challenging

In his statement, the defendant essentially admitted the acts attributed to him and appeared particularly defiant towards the judges saying that he did try to hit his son but failed.

“I was lying in the living room and he asked me 20 euros for the particulars of the child. I told her I have nothing to give her. She was cursing and threatening and I told her to go get a job. The violence is not only from my side, she has no respect for anything. The kid has hit me. I tried to him hit but in the end I didn’t hit it. As a child, I too was beaten by my father. Whatever happened, happened,” he said, with the president of the court stressing to him that it is forbidden to hit his son.
