What is MOMKA ex MOMA

The Mixed Groups of Reconstruction Machinery (commonly known by the acronym MOMA) was a Greek military organization of a construction nature which was active from 1957 to 1992.

MOMA was founded in 1957 with departments in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Patras, Lamia, Larissa and Ioannina. The MOMAs were not only made up of permanent and draft personnel of the engineering department of the Hellenic Army, but civil engineers, drivers, laborers and other contract personnel were also employed there. The main purpose of the organization was the reconstruction of the country’s infrastructure (bridges, airports, roads, etc.) after the widespread destruction caused by World War II, the German occupation of Greece and the Greek Civil War.

MOMAs were abolished in 1992, but in 2015 a similar agency, the Research and Construction Unit (MOMCA), was established.
