Less than two months before the European elections, New Democracy seems to be returning, at least according to opinion polls, to the percentages of the 2019 European elections, which is also the objective of the government staff, after several difficult months. That is why Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in addition to the general election mobilization he has announced, continues the targeted visits and excursions, promoting the tangible government work. This is what he did yesterday with the delivery of the last section of the E65 motorway, a major road project for central Greece, this is what he will do today, attending the event for the projects of the AEGIS program that are “running” together with the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, at the beginning of a difficult fire season.
The electoral mobilization, but also the moves made on its intra-party chessboard SW, however, they yield poll results for the government staff who saw these days the downward trend that ND had taken in the previous months. In fact, after the “braking”, the regrouping of forces has finally begun. At Megaros Maximos they estimate that this means that the message has started to get through to the party audience that the polls are not “relaxed”, while the choice of Freddy Beleris on the blue Euro ballot has given a first-class choice to the right-wing ND voters.
At the same time, Mr Prime Minister continues the movements in the internal party firmament, with successive meetings, this time with the party’s deputies. After the first meeting that took place on Monday, today at noon another 17 MPs from Peloponnese, Western Greece and Epirus will pass through the door of Maximos for a discussion with the Prime Minister and his close associates about the parties Thanasis Nezis and Michalis Bekiris.

Yesterday’s Opinion Poll survey for Action24 is indicative of the aforementioned situation. All AEGIS projects are on track
In this environment, Mr. Mitsotakis continues his targeted appearances and in the afternoon he will attend an event of Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for his progress AEGIS program, with a scope of 2.1 billion euros. At the start of a potentially unprecedented fire season, extra resources for Civil Protection are out of the blue for the government and the event is expected to announce the full roll-out of all program projects over the summer.
According to information from protothema.gr, in the last 9 months, during the tenure of Mr. Kikiliathe SHIELD that had been designed, started to be fully implemented and tenders of 1.5 billion euros have already been announced. Another 320 million tenders will be announced by the end of May and by the end of July at the latest the program will be completed in its entirety. The first deliveries are expected from 2025, with new coordination planes and mobile operations centers in the 13 regions of the country pending first. Notably, Mr. Mitsotakis had said in October (Alpha) that AEGIS would be the ultimate benchmark for the Ministry of Civil Protectionas the minister “does not have as his main concern to go to put out fires himself or to deal with the effects of a large flood in the field himself”, but “his main role is to implement an ambitious plan to fully adapt Civil Protection to the new demands of the times”.
