Environmental Education Activities at the 1st Primary School of Lamia

--

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the students of the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grades of the 1st Primary School of Lamia, Municipality of Lamia, participated in the environmental activities (video & presentation screening, hidden treasure game, basketball with recyclable materials, etc. .a.) that were carried out at their school by officials of the Regional School of Central Greece AE with the aim of informing-awareness of the students and promoting environmental education.

In particular, students had the opportunity to watch an organized presentation and video about protecting the environment through proper waste management, recycling, composting, reuse, sorting at source and other environmentally friendly practices. At the same time, they came into contact with difficult concepts such as Uncontrolled Waste Disposal Sites (WDS), Sanitary Landfill Sites (LANDFILL), Waste Treatment Units (WTP), etc.

Also, the students participated with particular enthusiasm in the “trash hidden treasure” game, discovering that the “trash” itself is a “hidden treasure” as with proper management they can benefit the environment as well as man himself (health, economy, etc.).

In addition, the children played basketball with recyclable materials, understanding in practice the contribution of reuse in the effort to protect the environment but also in the development of skills, such as imagination, creativity, etc.

The students, through the above actions and through the experiential way offered by the game, had the opportunity to come into contact with various environmental problems that threaten the planet and with practices of environmental protection and rational waste management, realizing their individual responsibility and proposing alternatives that would benefit the environment.

FoDSA of Central Greece SA rewarded the efforts of the students by donating them rulers, pencils, erasers, scrapers, bags & hats while at the same time distributing informative material with practical advice on recycling & composting in order to achieve the best possible result in the fight for the protection of environment by the “future citizens” who are the students. The main goal is for this meeting to be the trigger for the students to realize their environmental responsibility by carrying out daily actions and practices friendly to the environment and to convey to their relatives the benefits of recycling (packaging, food, lamps, electrical appliances, clothes etc.) thus ensuring the saving of non-renewable raw materials, natural resources and energy.

FoDSA of Central Greece SA will continue to strengthen initiatives for environmental actions with the aim of informing – raising awareness of citizens, and especially students, in matters of environmental protection and integrated waste management.
