With the lawyers mockingly comment on the building facilities that will host the country’s new regional Courts of First Instance, calling abstention from their duties and the organization of a referendum on the new Judicial Charter absolutely justified.
The 3 new regional Courts of First Instance of Athens and the corresponding ones of Piraeus will operate in these facilities, while the Ministry of Justice is responding, as dikastiko.gr wrote, to “truths and lies” about the Judicial Charter” and states that it will be applied to Attica in full development from September 2026.
In the photo report cited by the president of the Plenary of the Bar Associations and the DSA, Dimitris Vervesos, the infrastructure does not refer to… modern buildings that will house the new services.
Despite the fact that in them – as can be seen from the photos and comments – there is, among other things, a pizzeria for their service, a butcher for shopping at home, and even catering in case they organize a wedding.
At the same time inside the halls the conditions are – according to Mr. Vervesos – absolutely… modern with, among other things, a “collector’s fan: Modern Art”.

“It’s coming from 16/9/24 to the ‘cinema/ courtrooms’ to change our lives” says Mr. Vervesos. And as he states in his post: “We don’t want to see this project. It does not deserve the Greek Justice nor its officials and co-officials. It does not suit Greece and Avrio’s legal practice”.
And he adds: “That’s why we’re voting en masse in the DSA referendum against this future of ours,” he says, referring to the vote that’s ongoing until Holy Monday.

Mr. Vervesos in another of his posts he also refers to earlier statements by ND. in 2018 when he was in the opposition and the lawyers’ reactions to the plans of Kontonis, the then Minister of Justice, but also to those of the current government officials themselves.
“The Head of the Department of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of New Democracy, Member of Parliament for Kavala, Mr. Nikos Panagiotopoulos, regarding the initiative of the Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights for the trisection of the Court of First Instance of Athens, made the following statement:
“The Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, instead of working to cover the tragic deficiencies of the Court of First Instance of Athens both in terms of personnel and in basic logistical infrastructure, is quick to announce its cutting by the creation of two new Courts of First Instance.
It does so without prior institutional consultation, without cooperation with the co-functionaries of justice, without provision of sufficient funding, without rational planning, in the name of pompous announcements and micro-political expedients with pre-election and only targeting.
Instead of effectively strengthening a court that is unable to meet its basic operational needs, Mr. Kontonis chooses to create two more from scratch. Instead of solving the existing problem, it sets up additional problems in the future.
It does not listen to the anguish of thousands of struggling lawyers, it does not listen to anyone in charge, it does not choose, it does not predict, it does not plan, it does not contribute positively to the effort to solve the accumulated problems in terms of the orderly administration of justice in the country.
We declare our opposition to this problematic initiative and restate our position for a comprehensive redesign of the system, with dialogue with all the actors of the Greek Justice as a necessary condition”.
And as D. Vervesos concludes: “We were with the lawyers then and now. Never with any party.”
